Somerset County United Way's 2004 National Family Volunteer Day
was a success! The event confirmed that a great way to introduce
children to the concept of community service is to spend an afternoon
together as a family helping others. Approximately 350 individuals
helped with 18 projects including decorating paper bags that will
be used by the food bank to package holiday meals; creating holiday
greeting cards for hospitalized veterans; making garlands of popcorn
and cranberries as a winter treat for wildlife; painting food
collection barrels; sewing Hug-A-Bears, stuffed bears given out
by emergency personnel to children in a time of crisis; making
tissue paper flowers as gifts for seniors, making bows and wiring
pinecones that will decorate holiday wreaths, and more.
Somerset County United Way was pleased to coordinate this year's
National Family Volunteer Day with support from our caring community
partner: Baby & Co.
